Care for Puppies & Kittens
It's an exciting day when you get to bring your new puppy or kitten home! Your cute, cuddly new family member is great at making everyone smile.
Fun as it may be, pet ownership also involves taking care of some serious healthcare business during your new animal's first year of life.
Your vet can create a custom healthcare plan to meet your pet's specific needs during their first year. They can also provide you with much guidance and support along the way!
Your Puppy or Kitten’s First Appointment
Ideally, puppies and kittens should both have their first veterinary appointments at 6 weeks of age.
During this first visit, your pet will receive a comprehensive physical exam to check their overall health, look for external parasites and identify any congenital defects.
We will also provide deworming medications for hookworms and roundworms, along with the first round of puppy or kitten vaccinations.
More About Vaccines & Prevention
Finally, for kittens, we recommend a blood test to check for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus.
Followup Appointments
Between the ages of 6 and 16 weeks, kittens and puppies should attend 3 to 4 veterinary appointments. At these visits, our vets can assess your pet's overall health and administer vaccines on schedule.
